From a down economy, to the collapse of the housing market, to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, it has been a difficult spring for many who live along the Gulf Coast. It has been devastating to others.
Some businesses, however, which have remained strong are using this special time of year to show love and support to those in need.
What is quickly becoming an annual event, Wildflowers Boutique, along with O’Choppers Irish Pub and Tipseas Steam Shack, all located in Orange Beach, are collecting toys to be distributed to those in need this Christmas season.
“This is our second year to collect toys for the Christian Service Center,” said Terri Long, owner of Wildflowers. “These toys will help families in Orange Beach, Gulf Shores and Ft. Morgan. So far it has been an overwhelming turnout.”
Long said that her business, which offers a discount to customers who bring in a toy donation, has already collected more than 300 toys.
In addition the Christian Service Center also provides food baskets to families, so the businesses are also asking customers to clean out their pantry and bring unused non-perishable food items to be donated as well.
“The response this year has truly been unbelievable,” Long said.
Today, Wildflowers is hosting a holiday open house and encourage people to bring in toys and canned goods before the December 14 deadline.
Wildflowers is located on Canal Road inside the Coco Island Plaza.
