ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — Orange Beach police responded yesterday to a suicide call in front of City Hall. Around 11:30 a.m. two city employees noticed a man slumped over sitting in a maroon Mercedes sedan. Upon closer look an employee noticed a gun in the car.
According to Orange Beach Police Chief Tim Wilkins, when police arrived at the scene they found that a male had suffered from a self inflicted gun shot wound.
“He hadn’t been inside and interacted with anybody at City Hall," Wilkins said. “We really don’t have any indication as why (he killed himself) at this point.”
Wilkins said their is no indication of foul play and believes it was a suicide.
City Administrator Ken Grimes said inside the car was city of Orange Beach literature. The car was parked in front of the community development building at the municipal complex.
“No one heard anything,” Grimes said Friday. “He was obviously coming to do business but we don’t know what that is.”
Grimes said as of now the city had not determined a connection to the victim.
“We encourage anyone who is having issues to seek out help,” Grimes said. “No issue in this world is worth taking your life for.”
Orange Beach police believed they had the man identified but would not release his name at press time.
