K-3 Sea, Sand, and Stars’ students will be learning about the influences of the seasons on our weather.  Kindergarten will identify the seasons of the year and describe seasonal changes.  First grade will observe daily changes in the weather and record weather data.  Second graders will go outdoors to look for evidence of the water cycle and make a beaded bracelet to remind them of the stages of the water cycle.  Third graders will connect their knowledge of the Earth’s position in space to the seasons on Earth.

Astronomy is the theme for fourth, fifth, and sixth grade during the month of February.  Students will compare the relative size and distance of planets and map the winter night sky constellations.

Field trips continue with first grade visiting from Fairhope Elementary, second grade from Daphne Elementary, and third grade from Elberta Elementary.  Visiting snow birds also have a field trip planned to the center as well as the seniors from both Orange Beach and Gulf Shores.

Xylophones, glockenspiels, drums, oh my!  Students in first, second and third grades are exploring and playing melodies on the Orff instruments and drums using the Mallet Madness program in their music classes.  Fourth grade students have started Recorder Karate and several students have already earned their white belts for playing “Hot Cross Buns”.  Fifth graders are continuing their recorder studies and are playing along with rock, country and jazz bands, and have also started work on a drum circle piece.
