Orange Beach library reopens after storms, flooding

ORANGE BEACH — After closures for repairs and assessment from storms on July 16, the Orange Beach Public Library is now back open to the public.

An Orange Beach librarian said the building "took in some water" during the storms, specifically along the back wall facing Wolf Bay, which is mostly made of windows.

Construction on the roof of the library is still in progress and has not previously prevented access to the library long-term.

Dehumidifiers and fans were positioned around the library to dry water spots.
By the time the doors reopened on July 21, the only area still roped off was a portion of the children's room as drying equipment was still in use.

"We were able to remove most of the books from the shelves in there," the librarian said, "but some items needed more time to dry."

As the library is once again open to the public, a full calendar of events can be found on the library's website.

Upcoming events for the week of July 28 include "Books and Brews Book Club" on Monday; kids' story time, glow blacklight parties for elementary and middle/high school students on Tuesday; kids' rock painting and glow art on Wednesday; and family bingo on Thursday.
