ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - That’s a wrap! “Dream Big: Read,” “Own the Night,” and “Between the Covers” Summer Reading programs have all ended with a bang!
“The Dream Big: Read” and “Own the Night” programs culminated with an awards ceremony July 5. Participants in these reading enrichment programs logged the books they read during the program and were awarded prizes.
The Library was abuzz all through June on Thursdays with various programs and performances. The youth programs entitled “Dream Big: Read,” included performances from vocal sound impressionist Charlie Williams, “The Noise Guy,” percussionist Mark Seymour and his high energy program entitled “Be-At Your Best,” traditional African musician EKPE and “The Spirit of African Music,” and Mr. Billy’s “Rock and Roll All Night” rock fest.
The teen program and it’s “Own the Night” theme began with “Sew What with Ms. Andie” where attendees made soft sculpture mobiles of moons and stars. Participants then got crafty with Ms. Patsy and Ms. Meagan, enjoyed smores and spooky tales in the dark with Ms. Lisa, and learned how to create music with an iPad with Mr. Billy presenting “Teen Music Tech.”
The “Between the Covers” adult summer reading program hosted a variety of programs on Mondays and Wednesdays including: a book signing with Paris Love, author of “Growing Pains”; yoga Gulf Coast-style with Carol McCracken; a writer’s workshop, and a class on “Downsizing with Facebook” with Bethany Gournares. Participants also enjoyed matinees of the films “Seabiscuit” and “Julie & Julia” as well as a reader’s theatre presentation by Seth Bowling of 84 Charing Cross Road.
All of these events were open to the public. The children’s and teen summer reading programs were sponsored by the Friends of the Orange Beach Public Library. For more information on the Library, visit www.orangebeachlibrary.org or call 251-981-2923.
