Orange Beach Parks and Recreation Department hosting summer camps

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — The city of Orange Beach Parks and Recreation Department is excited to offer a large variety of special programs and camps for area youth.

There will be two sessions of Kid’s Culinary Camp. This fun cooking camp offers junior chefs ages 10-13 years old the opportunity to learn about kitchen safety, cooking skills and yummy recipes.

Kids are encouraged to be creative and have fun in a safe environment.

Session 1 is “Basic Meals”, June 15-19 and Session 2 is “Cooking through the Years”, July 13-17.

Both sessions are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon. Registration fees are $40 for residents of Orange Beach and $60 for nonresidents and include camp and food/supplies. Call 981-6028.

EcoRangers is also returning. This science camp is for kids ages eight to 1 years old.

The young scientists will learn about the area’s environment through hands-on experiments and hikes. Camp will be June 8-12, 9 a.m. to noon.

Kids will be going on a tour of the BackCountry Trail. Registration fees are $40 for residents of Orange Beach and $60 for nonresidents. Call 981-6028.

The Art Center is offering some very popular camps and programs.

The Kids’ Summer Arts Camp will include activities such as theater, pottery and paper mache and is for grades first through sixth. The cost of the camp is $110 and it will be held June 22-26, 9 a.m.-3:15 p.m.

KinderArts is a class for four and five year olds and will include hands on activities. It will be held on Mondays, starting June 29. The cost is $100.

There will also be a Teen Pottery Class. For more information on Summer Art Programs, call Wanda at the Orange Beach Art Center at 981-2787.

The Aquatics Center will be holding a whole slew of programs, including swim lessons for ages six months and up. The fees start at $35 per two week session and are held at various times.

Dive In Theater is a “Kids Night Out” program that includes swimming, eating and movie watching.

The very popular Junior Lifeguard Program will have three sessions this summer: June 8-19, June 22-July 10 and July 13-24.

This program for ages nine and up teaches water safety, basic lifeguard procedures and youth scuba instruction. For more information about aquatics programs, call the Orange Beach Aquatics Center at 974-7946.

At the Tennis Center, kids seven and up can enjoy the Summer Kid’s Program and have fun learning a great sport.

The fee is $70 per two week session, $40 per one week session or $12 per day. The sessions began May 26 and is held in the mornings.

For the four to six-year-olds, there is the Tiny Tots Class, held the week of June 22-25 at 6 p.m. Parental presence is required and the fee is $25 per student. Call the Orange Beach Tennis Center at 974-6387 for details.

The Golf Center is hosting Youth Summer Golf Lessons which provide instruction in golf etiquette, driving, putting, chipping, long iron and short iron. The fee is $35 per three day session, and is held in the mornings.

The Orange Beach Teen Center will be having several fun and interesting programs this summer including socials, field trips, billiards tournaments, surfing camps and volunteer programs.
