BAY MINETTE, Ala. — A Pensacola, Fla., man was convicted Monday in federal court for failure to register as a criminal sex offender, after moving to Orange Beach without notifying authorities of his new legal residence.
Samuel Earl Pleasant, 31, allegedly moved to a Canal Road residence Oct. 12, without contacting Orange Beach police or the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, according to a warrant filed in Baldwin County District Court.
Pleasant was previously convicted in Escambia County, Fla., Circuit Court on a sexual battery charge and false imprisonment involving a child under age 13, according to assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua Bearden.
He previously lived on Garden Street in Pensacola, Fla., according to court documents.
He remains incarcerated at Baldwin County Corrections under no bail, according to jail records. He was indicted Dec. 28.
Alabama law requires an adult sexual offender to notify municipal or county authorities of intent to move 30 days prior to relocation.
Failure to register as a sex offender is punishable by imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine of up to $250,000.
The joint investigation was conducted by the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, Orange Beach Police Department and other county, state and federal agencies.
