Orange Beach to Host Kick-Off Event for Canal Road Overlay District Plan

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — Have you ever been afraid to walk or ride your bicycle along Canal Road? Wouldn’t you like to walk along Canal Road and look in storefront windows instead of staring at passing car bumpers?

Do you have any suggestions on how to enhance landscaping and position parking spaces and buildings to make Canal Road more desirable?

If you have ideas or recommendations to these concerns, the Orange Beach Community Development Department strongly encourages your attendance at the kick-off event for the Canal Road Overlay District Plan.

The event is scheduled for Monday, Jan 30 from 3-6 p.m. at the Orange Beach Senior Center located at 26251 Canal Road (building west of the Orange Beach Public Library).

The kick-off event is the first of a series of public meetings exploring complete streets, new urbanism and livable community concepts for Canal Road from The Wharf eastward to Wilson Boulevard.

The Canal Road Overlay District Plan is being funded through a grant from the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program and the Dauphin Island Sea Lab.
