ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — The Orange Beach Citizens Association (OBCA), will host a “State of the City” forum, Tuesday, Jan 17, 2012 at the Orange Beach Community Center, 27235 Canal Road.

The regular Orange Beach City Council meeting will be held prior to the meeting at 5 p.m. and everyone is invited to attend both meetings.

The meeting will begin with a short update on City business by City of Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon. Also to be discussed is the Restore Act and its potential impact on South Baldwin County.

The Restore Act deals, in part, with the distribution of the fine money paid by BP due to the 2010 oil spill. This will be followed by a public forum where other future business of the City of Orange Beach will be discussed.

"Our City is moving away from crisis mode and the future looks optimistic," City Administrator Ken Grimes said. "We have made a lot of progress that impacts our citizens’ daily lives that they may be unaware of and this format will allow us to highlight those accomplishments such as the completion of the Waste Water Treatment Plant that recently came on line. The new facility can treat up to 10 million gallons per day.

"This improvement to our infrastructure will help carry us forward. Other accomplishments include the addition of the Beach Patrol to our Public Safety arsenal and the purchase of the Event Center which will become an economic driver for our community.”

The Town Hall will update the public on many topics ranging from the Power South Bore across Wolf Bay which will provide redundant power to the entire island to the reduction of City debt due to sound fiscal policies.

This format will also allow citizens to ask questions on any topic related to City business and to also learn how they can become involved in the future success of Orange Beach.
