ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Mayor Tony Kennon was certified as the mayor for another four-year term at Tuesday’s council work session, but he wasn’t there to accept.

Kennon, who is unopposed in the Aug. 28 municipal election, was taking by ambulance to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon with what city officials say were chest pains.

City Administrator Ken Grimes said at the meeting the mayor was fine and would undergo tests on Wednesday. Via the city’s Facebook page, Kennon thanked everyone for prayers and concerns and insisted he would be OK.

Mayor pro tem Jeff Silvers ran the meeting which was followed by a candidate forum for the upcoming election.

Kennon was first elected mayor in 2008 after serving a portion of a term on the City Council starting in 2004.
