Mary Katherine Orr, 91, of Gulf Shores, died Friday, July 11, 2008.

She was born in Vicksburg, Miss., and spent most of her earlier years in Atlanta where she met and married her beloved husband, Joe.

They eventually moved to Birmingham where she made her career as purchasing agent Secretary, then later buyer for the Rust Engineering Company.

Upon retirement, Gulf Shores, became home and both Mary Katherine and Joe worked until their 80s. She was employed full time with the City of Gulf Shores in many capacities, one being secretary to Mayor Tom Norton, serving as secretary to Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, and a member of Gulf Shores Senior Circle Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph B. Orr, her parents, Lola and William A. Wallace, two brothers, Bill and Paul D. Wallace.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Marie (Joe) Franks of St. Augustine, Fla.; son, Joseph B. (Mary Jo) Orr Jr., of Alpharetta, Ga.; two sisters, Lola Beth Hayes and Anne Souto of Foley; a brother, Donald Wallace of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Jay, Kathleen, Vivian, Joe Berry and Brad and nine great-grandchildren; and many longtime friends.

Visitation and Rosary will begin at 9 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday, July 14 at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, Gulf Shores. Interment will follow at Pine Rest Memorial Park, Foley.
