"Our House" is a ministry of nurture and care for individuals with memory or physical needs; such as Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and stroke challenges. It is a new program in Foley that fosters cognitive and social stimulation with things like arts and crafts, physical exercise, games and music. There will be one staff member per each two participants, and snacks and lunch will be served. If you have a loved one that needs daily care, but need some time outside the home for shopping, appointments, or a little rest for yourself, this is to help you have that.
"Our House" begins Tuesday, January 3rd, and will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. "Our House" is located in the Spirit Center of Foley United Methodist Church at 915 N. Pine St. in Foley. A support group for care-givers will meet the first Thursday of each month at the church. This group will help them learn ways to cope with what may be a first life-time experience, and have an opportunity to talk about the day-to-day problems of impaired loved ones. This shared experience will help the care-givers know that they are not going through this alone. Help, experience, and answers to questions will be available from the staff at "Our House."
The program is not designed to provide medical or professional counseling services. The goal of "Our House" is to provide care and respite for care-givers, as well as love, care , joy, and well- being to their loved ones. Contact the church at 251-943-4393, or Gay Seagle, Director, at 251-424-3754 for information, or questions about the program.
