FOLEY, Ala. — Foley police arrested two people Tuesday morning for leaving a five-month old in a vehicle at Wal-Mart. Those arrested were the infant’s father and grandmother.
According to Lt. David White, lead investigator at Foley Police Department, Wal-Mart security contacted FPD at approximately 9:45 a.m. concerning an infant that had been left in a vehicle in the store’s parking lot.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the infant in a car seat, White said. At that point, police attempted to have the driver of the car paged inside the store but to no avail. At approximately 10:12 a.m., police found the infant’s father and grandmother in the process of checking out inside the store, White said, noting the infant appears to have been left unattended for 30 minutes or so.
At approximately 11 a.m., during a telephone interview with White, he said the infant was at FPD and the two adults were talking with investigators. White also said investigators will be looking at Wal-Mart store tapes to determine just how long the infant was left in the car.
White identified the two adults as James Miley Jr., 18, of Fairhope, the infant’s father, and Allison Miley, 36, of Fairhope, the infant’s grandmother.
“The father said it was a mistake,” White said of the incident.
The adults were each charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
