DAPHNE – The Murphy Panthers rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit and took the lead for the first time in the final minute of the game, defeating home standing Daphne 18-17 on Friday at Jubilee Stadium.
Murphy’s Depriest Turner threw two touchdown passes to Jaylen Sutton in the fourth quarter, including the game winner with 1:04 left to play in the game.
Turner’s first 20-yard touchdown pass to Sutton with 9:29 pulled the Panthers within two points of the Trojans at 14-12, and Murphy’s two-point try failed.
A 27-yard field goal from Daphne’s Joshua Varela gave the Trojans a 17-12 lead before Murphy’s 64-yard game-winning drive. Daphne (3-2) took a 14-3 lead in the first half after T.J. Reed’s 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and John Quinnelly’s touchdown pass to Brandolin Perdue in the second quarter.
Reed carried 35 times for 222 yards and a touchdown. Taronce King and Zedrick Raymond had interceptions for the Panthers, who improved to 4-1.
