BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Mystic Revelers Parade will roll through Bay Minette tomorrow afternoon.
The event will kick off at 2 p.m. at Bay Minette Middle School and traverse through downtown Bay Minette.
Originally set for last Saturday at noon, the event was intended to celebrate Mardi Gras. But with Lent season under way, that theme will change.
“We’ll call it Spring Festival,” Mystic Revelers President Harry Wilson said in a telephone interview.
Tomorrow’s parade will feature a variety of attractions, including six floats, a variety of trucks and vans, and area school bands.
This is the third time weather has interfered with the Mystic Revelers’ Mardi Gras Parade. Last year’s parade took place in mid-March, also honoring the spring season.
Despite its recent streak of bad luck, the Mystic Revelers don’t intend to change the parade schedule in the future — unless it’s rained out again.
“It’s going to be Feb. 9,” Wilson said of next year’s parade. “It’s always the Saturday before Fat Tuesday.”
As for tomorrow, Wilson pointed out that the parade will just be one event planned in Bay Minette. Also planned is the Bay Minette Rotary Club’s fourth annual Chilly Run and Cook-off.
As previously reported, the event is a collaborative event between Rotary and the Heritage Junior Women’s Club, with proceeds benefitting the North Baldwin Coalition for Excellence in Education, in the form of teacher grants for the nine schools in the Baldwin County High School feeder pattern.
The Chilly Run will begin at 9 a.m. at Community Kids Park, with a 5K run/race walk. It will be followed by a 1-mile fun run at 10 a.m. The chili cook-off sponsored by the women’s club will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
