Park benches ready for your enjoyment

DAPHNE, Ala. — The Daphne Beautification Committee’s members recently met at D’Olive Park to inspect new picnic tables and park benches that Troop 177 Boy Scout Charlie Sumner and his father, Chuck, along with other friends and volunteers, built for public use.

As one of his projects to become an Eagle Scout, Charlie committed to the DBC to build four picnic tables and additional park benches. They are now ready for use.

The committee thanks Charlie and his friends for this addition.

“If you haven’t visited the park lately, you should see the newly planted native plants in bloom,” Tomasina Werner, DBC member, said in a news release. “The butterflies are back to the ‘butterfly garden’ and the latest achievement has been the completion of the sidewalk, handrails and parking lot at the entrance to ‘Gator Alley’ by Marshall Parsons, Marjorie Bellue and the fantastic Public Works crew!

“They have just finished planting trees back of the new fence in the parking lot that are due to have carved ‘critters’ atop the posts.”

Working with the Public Works and Recreation departments, Mayor Fred Small and local volunteers, many things are being accomplished daily for the city’s beautification.

The public can be a vital part of this effort by helping us keep our surrounding areas clean, Werner said.

The DBC is always looking for volunteers. If you would like to be a part of its efforts, contact Dorothy Morrison at 621-0831 or attend meetings, which are held at 10 a.m. on the first Friday of each month at the Daphne Recreation Center.
