Patricia Ernestine Sherman was born Oct. 15, 1940 in the Sonora community in Baldwin County. She died Sunday, July 12, 2015 at home after a prolonged illness with rheumatoid arthritis.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, William Ernest Sherman and Iris McKenzie Sherman; and her sister, Ruth Sherman Underwood.

Patty is survived by her sisters, Sylvia Lake (Gay) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Sybil Merig of Mobile, Ala., Sarah Parkhouse (Robin) of Orlando, Fla. and Susan Leibert (Barry) of Mobile, Ala. In addition, she is survived by many nieces, nephew, her dear friend, Vera and Danny Pugh.

Patty graduated from Foley High School in 1958, then the University of Alabama in 1961. She did an internship in medical technology at UAB in Birmingham, and worked in research.

Patty returned to the family farm in 1973 to help her dad on the farm. She eventually got her own cattle, and was a successful cattle farmer. She was named Alabama Cattleman of the Year.

She enjoyed being a part of the farming community, where she made many friends through the years. Patty especially enjoyed her nieces and nephews, and loved taking them on trips. They loved to go to “Aunt Patty’s” house to feed her chickens and gather eggs.

Patty was also a great animal lover, and had a tender heart for any stray dog or cat.

Private graveside services will be held at Pine Rest Cemetery.
