John Ray Patten, 94, a native of Robertsdale, died peacefully Thursday, June 10, 2010.

He served in the US Navy during World War II in Naval Aviation. After the war, he graduated from Brown University. He was employed by the State of Rhode Island, Division of Taxation, retiring in 1981. In his younger years he enjoyed golfing and fishing. Later he enjoyed playing games on his computer and emailing his relatives. Throughout his life he enjoyed traveling with his family and took many trips in the United States.

He was known for his kindness to everyone and he will be sadly missed and forever remembered by his family and especially his Grandson Evan, with whom he enjoyed being with so much.

He was preceded in death by his parents Vollie I Patten and Mary Eliza Roberson Patten; and a brother, Jesse O. Patten.

Survivors include his wife, Yolanda F. Isabella Patten; two sons, Raymond D. (Anita) Patten and Dennis K. Patten; and one grandson, Evan J. Patten; sister, Mary Belle Kirsch; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 15 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Cranston, R.I. Mass of Christian Burial followed at St. Mark's Church, Cranston. Burial with military honors were held at St. Ann's Cemetery.

Arrangements were made by Woodlawn Funeral Home, Cranston, R.I.
