DAPHNE, Ala. — Around 30 Lake Forest residents attended Monday night’s city council meeting to push for road paving in the subdivision.

The 30-year-old roads are full of potholes and patches, residents agreed.

Henry Lawson, president of the Lake Forest improvement committee, had written a letter to council members asking them to address the issue, and so it appeared on Monday’s agenda.

He asked that city leaders find a quick response to the need, which the residents in attendance said, was evident.

“It’s pothole city, actually,” John Coulter said.

“People are very concerned about the future,” Lawson said.

The complaint was rooted in idle funds for the project.

Mayor Fred Small said that $170,000 in the fund had not been used because city officials hope to add funds in next year’s budget or to gain a bond to pay for the large project.

Residents said they’ve been waiting for years.

“We’ve heard nothing but promises and nothing’s been done,” Coulter said. “We’re tired of promises.”

Willie Robison, a Lake Forest Property Owners Association board member, said that the “Jubilee Breeze” — a city publication that explains politics and events — wrongly stated that $800,000 had been spent by the current council on road pavings in Lake Forest.

Council President Greg Burnam assured Robison that the figures would be researched.

He told residents that the public works department would consider the issue and the council would discuss it at the July 17 work session.
