Pecans, vehicle stolen in Summerdale

SUMMERDALE, Alabama – Two adult white males burglarized a warehouse on Highway 59 in Summerdale before dawn Friday morning.

Suspects stole at least $6,000 worth of pecans, a camouflage all-terrain vehicle worth $9,000 and .22-caliber rifle after prying open a locked warehouse door, police say.

The two males traveled south toward Foley in the stolen all-terrain vehicle, carting 2,000 pounds of pecans and the stolen gun, after leaving the property.

normal;background:white"> “Most folks get all excited about a convenience store robbery, where a couple hundred dollars are stolen,” Summerdale Police Chief Eddie Ingram said. “These men stole about $25,000 worth of product and vehicles. They’re taking people’s livelihood. A lot of people in the area rely on crops for their monthly income, just to have some punks come and steal it.”

The thieves may be responsible for similar crimes in surrounding areas, according to authorities. At least three other pecan thefts have been reported in Robertsdale, Elberta and Silverhill.

The suspects also stole a truck in a previous robbery, according to police.

“They’re definitely from this area, within Baldwin County,” Ingram said. “We’re maintain our patrols to residential thefts. We have several reserves volunteering their time.”
Police have been holding stakeouts and have installed cameras in more locations around town, Ingram said. Police are also offering a $500 reward.

“We’re doing everything within our power to catch them and bring them to justice,” Ingram said.
