Perdido Beach mulls comprehensive plan

PERDIDO BEACH — Less than three years after incorporation, the town of Perdido Beach continues to develop its municipality.

An example of such development is the town Planning Commission’s recent submission of a comprehensive plan through the year 2030. During Tuesday’s regular workshop, the Perdido Beach Town Council discussed that plan.

The discussion included the removal about such words as “morals” and “prosperity”. With that removal, Perdido Beach Mayor Patsy Parker said the phrase “promote the welfare” would suffice.

“Generally, welfare covers a lot of this,” she said at the workshop.

But Tuesday’s discussion of the issue also clarified the difference between the duties of the town’s Planning Commission and Council. This came with wording that pointed to the Commission’s passing the plan. Upon discussion of the matter, Parker pointed out that the Commission makes recommendations to the Council, which the Council then considers.

“Then it will be our decision whether we pass it or not,” the mayor said. “The Planning Commission is not going to make decisions.”

Tuesday’s discussion included clarification that the plan is a living document and would be reviewed annually and change as the town’s needs change.

The Perdido Beach Town Council will consider the plan at its regular meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 19.
