FAIRHOPE, Alabama—Pending for more than a month after a continuance in early December, the disciplinary hearing of a Fairhope employee was again cancelled this morning, this time at the request of an attorney for the city, according to Pandora Heathcoe, human resources administrator.
The Dec. 7 hearing was rescheduled the day before on request of Avera’s attorney, according to the city.
Five of six Fairhope Personnel Board members appeared for the 8 a.m. meeting today, expecting to hear the appeal of Ronald “Tony” Avera, a Fairhope corrections officer contesting his proposed firing by Police Chief Bill Press.
In both continuances, the city granted the attorneys’ request for continuances without input from the board, and in the case of today’s rescheduling, without any notice to the board in advance of the meeting that it had happened, according to staff and officials.
Avera’s hearing will probably be rescheduled later this week, Heathcoe told the board.
