PETE LEWANDOWSKI IS ONE BUSY GOLDEN BEAR

Pete Lewandowski, a senior at Robertsdale High, feels as if he’s burning the candle at both ends, so to speak, as he’s committed to various projects and organizations both in and out of RHS.

“I’m in quite a few organizations and clubs at school,” he said, “and outside of it I’m committed to my church, Loxley Church of God.”

At RHS Lewandowski is a member of both the tennis and swim teams,” he said. “I played baseball one year, but for one reason or another I decided to just go with just the tennis and swimming. I feel that those are sports you can take through life with you without having to round up half the neighborhood to play baseball or softball.”

In addition to sports, Lewandowski is a member of First Priority, a Christian organization, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, where he has served as a speaker to the group.

“I’m also a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, which is a math club, and the Astronomy Club that we formed last year,” he said. “Although I have a lot of interests my church is the most important one.”

There, Lewandowski works in the children’s ministry, plus he performs on the youth department’s drama team.

This past summer was a busy one for Lewandowski, as he attended the American Legion’s Boys State at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, as well as Washington, D.C., as part of the Baldwin Electric Membership Co-op’s Youth Tour.

“Gerson Tunek, who also attends RHS, and I were both runners-up in the Boys State governor’s race,” he said. “Instead I was made a Circuit Judge for our county, of which their were seven.”

At the end of Boys State, which teaches young men about the inner workings of local and state government, Lewandowski was presented with his county’s citizenship and the best leadership award for all of the counties.

“Four days after I arrived home from Boys State, I left for Washington D.C., on the Baldwin EMC Youth Tour,” he said. “There, we got to meet Congressman Jo Bonner and other leaders from Alabama.”

Lewandowski said that seeing the various monuments, and especially the Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery, and Smithsonian, were the highlights of the trip.

“Unless you’ve seen it, it’s hard to believe all the sights that are available for tourists to see,” he said.

The son of Geri and Steve Lewandowski, Pete is the middle of five brothers, which include; Kyle, 24, Freddy, 19, Pete, Sammy, who is a sophomore at RHS and Danny who is in second grade.

Despite all his activities Lewandowski has a 4.02 grade point average. He made a 25 on the ACT when he took it his junior year. The fact that he knows how to prioritize his time, in addition to having a strong work ethic, should open a number of doors for him both in college and in the work of work

“One I finish RHS I would like to attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy,” he said. “Although I intend to get involved, I don’t plan on getting as involved as I have been in high school. College and especially the service academies are more demanding of your time.”
