Velton Lovander Peterson, 75, a native of Kiln, Miss., and resident of Foley, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009.
He was in the Hall of Fame at the Mississippi School for the Deaf and graduated from there in 1955. He was retired from the Mobile Press Register as a printer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lovander Peterson and Ellen Moran Peterson; and siblings, Elgin Peterson, Edgar Peterson and Vernell Lee.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Nell “Helen” Peterson; two sons, Jimmy L. ( Amy) Peterson and John Peterson (John C.); six siblings, Murriell (Robert) Stewart, Annie Mae (Jerry) Holsi, Janell (Larry) Ladner, Shirley (Tony) Valenzia, Diann (Richard) Necaise and Larry Peterson; two precious granddaughters, Mary Ann and Elizabeth; numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Sept. 27 at Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Mobile.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind, Mobile Regional Center, 1050 Government St., Mobile, AL 36604.
