Commander Cushing Phillips Jr. (USN-Retired), 85, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008 at his home in Montgomery.
He was an honored veteran of World War II and a published author and recognized authority in his field. Moreover, he was a dutiful son, a devoted father, and a loving and faithful husband.
He served his country, his community, his family and his Lord with constancy, dignity, and courage.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Anne Barry Shivers Phillips of Montgomery; three daughters, Susan Spada Lowe of Freeville, N.Y., Annette Phillips Taylor of Montgomery, and Laura Phillips Lecher of Jackson, Tenn.; son Cushing Phillips III, of Montgomery; grandson Ronald David Spada of Fountainville, Pa.; granddaughters, Blake Michelle, Jamie Noel, and Lauren Danielle Taylor, all of Montgomery; very special friends who so lovingly tended to him in his final years Johnathan, Debbie, Veronica, Beth, Helen, Denise, Lucille, and many more.
Funeral services and interment were held Saturday, Dec. 13, at St. Wilfred’s Episcopal Cemetery in Marion.
