FAIRHOPE,Ala. — The city of Fairhope will re-open the Pier Street Boat ramp to the public on Tuesday, May 25. The ramp has been closed to the public since May 12 to serve as a command center for boom deployment related to the BP oil spill.
Because there may still be a need over the next couple of weeks for additional boom deployment, the ramp area will be shared by contractors and the general public. A small work area will be roped off for the contractors and for public safety the general public should not enter that area.
The ramp will remain open to the public for the immediate future. If the oil sheen shifts significantly towards Mobile Bay, the ramp may have to close again for response activities.
Anyone with questions should call Ken Eslava, assistant public works director and city Oil Spill Project manager ,at 928-8003.
