FAIRHOPE, Ala. – The Fairhope High School men’s basketball team (13-8, 1-2 in 6A Area 3) took care of business Friday in a 64-37 victory against county rival Foley High School (3-13, 0-4).
The Pirates used a 27-point third quarter to create enough separation to cruise to a victory, bouncing back from their 55-49 loss to Daphne High School last week.
Jerome Jackson, Lewis Hunter and Tripp Drummond combined to score more than the entire Foley team. Jackson led the Pirates with 17 points, including two dunks to begin the third quarter that got the Fairhope crowd fired up. Hunter added 13 points, while Drummond had 11 points. Hayden Harrelson chipped in with eight points, five rebounds and two blocks.
“Hayden had some good offensive production in the second quarter,” Pirates head coach Andrew Ryan said after the game, “and Jerome and Lewis had some dunks that got the crowd going.”
The Pirates jumped out to an early 19-6 advantage with under six minutes left before half time, but Foley kept their deficit from getting any bigger and Fairhope led 29-16 heading into the break. However, the Lions couldn’t stop the Pirates in the third quarter, and Fairhope used a 27-9 run to pull away.
“We came out after half time with a run with some more energy and defended a bit better,” Ryan said about his team’s third quarter play.
Malcolm Barnett and Alontai Adams combined for 31 of Foley’s 37 points. Barnett led all scorers with 20 points, and he finished eight-for-10 from the free throw line. Adams added 11 points.
