PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Pirates pounded out the miles and the individual wins in the open and invitational divisions of the Gulf Coast XC Stampede at the Escambia County Equestrian Center on Saturday.
Fairhope freshman Hannah Evans took first in the open girls with a winning time of 20:56.80 while sophomore Thomas Grace finished fourth overall in 18:53.70 in the open boys.
In the boys invitational, Shawn Hinton ran an unbridled 17:23.40 to win and teammate Nic Fasanello was right behind at 17:45.90. Jordan Moore of Fairhope was also in the medal at 10th with an 18:10.10. Also in the top 20 boys were Brett Hanke of Spanish Fort 14th, Tyler Phelps of Robertsdale 15th and Reece Stevens of SFHS 17th. On the girls side Ayne Delgado of Spanish Fort continues to finish strong with a fifth spot time of 21:55.30.
"It was a lot of fun," said Fairhope coach Tim Yahr. "It's nice to get some awards, get some confidence going and getting a couple first place finishes is always nice and fun for the kids. Hannah did a great job it was hot and hard out there, but that’s what they do and I'm proud of them.
“Shawn, Nic ran well. Jordan did a great job. He's new to the sport but really focused. Thomas Grace had a good race. I'm proud of of them and the whole team."
In the open team standings, Fairhope was sixth in the girls, eighth in boys, SFHS was ninth in open boys. In varsity, the Lady Toros were eighth and the boys were second.
