GULF SHORES, Ala. – The fire department was called to Jack Edwards Airport about 2:10 on Tuesday afternoon to be on standby for a plane experiencing a possible landing gear problem.
“We got a call from Pensacola approach that we had an aircraft coming in that might have some landing gear problems,” Airport Manager Jerri Thompson said. “They had some smoking. They came in, the gear worked fine and everything’s good. We called them to be on standby in case we had a problem.”
The plane left Jack Edwards heading for Homestead, Fla., when a problem was discovered with a landing gear.
“The landing gear wouldn’t stop running so they turned around and came back,” Thompson said. “There’s actually a motor that retracts the landing gear and once the gear retracts it shuts off automatically. This one didn’t shut off.”
The plane landed safely around 2:20 p.m.
