Planning commission approves site plan of church worship center at Thursday’s meeting

DAPHNE, Ala.—The Daphne Planning Commission on Thursday approved the site plan review for Bay Community Church’s new Worship Center.

The zoning for the site is B-2, general business, and it is located southwest of the Alabama Highway 181 and Interstate 10 intersection.

The commission approved the site unanimously, but commissioner Cathy Barnette also had some questions concerning stormwater management for the property.

When Barnette asked if there would be any “pervious paving” to help storm water absorb into the ground, architect Jeff Jordan of Forrest Daniell and Associates said the property would not have such paving, and cited “cost” as one of the major reasons.

“Upfront cost is one of the biggest factors,” Jordan said, also noting people tripping on the paving with their church high-heels and kids playing sports there and the possibility of injury.

“I was just concerned about stormwater management (on the property),” Barnette said. “It’s part of the D’Olive Watershed.”

Barnette said the city should be careful about planning in that area.
