Pleasure Island gets ready for Mardi Gras

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – The good times will roll all weekend in Orange Beach with the Mystical Order of Mirams kicking off the parades on Feb. 8 starting at 6:30 p.m.

There will be four days of parades in Orange Beach and one in Gulf Shores on Fat Tuesday starting at 10 a.m.

The Mirams will be parading along Perdido Beach Boulevard starting at Wintzell’s and ending at Highway 161. Visit www.mirams.info.

The Mardi Gras weekend continues with the Mystics of Pleasure Parade on Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m. This parade follows along Perdido Beach Boulevard, starting at Wintzell’s and ending at Zeke’s Marina. Visit www.mysticsofpleasure.org.

The Wharf will host two parades as well on Feb. 10. The Children’s and Pet Parade will go up and down Main Street at the Wharf beginning at 4 p.m. and is open to all who would like to walk in the parade. The Wharf will be providing throws and there is no need to pre-register, just show up at the lineup on the north end of Main Street.

The Float Parade at the Wharf will be at 6 p.m., featuring floats from the area Mardi Gras Krewes. The Wharf will also have other family fun and activities before and after the parades. Visit www.alwharf.com.

The Orange Beach Mardi Gras Parade is the culmination of Fat Tuesday (Feb.12) Parades on the Island. The parade will begin at 2 p.m. at Wintzell’s and end at the intersection of Perdido Beach Boulevard and Highway 161.

If you are tailgating and watching from Walmart, Winn Dixie or Publix parking lots, the front of the parade should arrive about 2:45-3 p.m. but the highway will be closed just before the parade begins to ensure safety of the public and all spectators.

The City of Orange Beach works closely with each Krewe to ensure a family atmosphere and parades for all ages are provided.  We hope that your 2013 Mardi Gras experience is a positive one.
