DAPHNE, Ala.—The “Point in time” homeless count is happening throughout Baldwin County today.
The national event happens annually during the last 10 days of January, and local volunteers travel throughout Baldwin County to record homeless individuals and groups for the count.
“The volunteers are local people, and when people see that the homeless people are local people there’s more desire to try to help,” Alan Cox, a volunteer from Spanish Fort, said.
Connie Clemons of Catholic Social Services of Baldwin County, who is coordinating the event in Baldwin County, said it is a federally mandated event.
Housing First, Inc.—a Mobile-based non-profit organization that attempts to help homeless people from Mobile and Baldwin County find housing—will be receiving the recorded numbers of homeless individuals in the Mobile and Baldwin County areas.
