FAIRHOPE – Callers falsely claiming to be Fairhope police are seeking information from area residents, police said Wednesday, Jan. 26.

Police Lt. Shane Nolte said the calls are not coming from the department and anyone contacted should notify the police.

“We don’t do handle things that way,” Nolte said.

He said one person contacted was asked for personal information such as his driver’s license number.

“We’re not going to be asking for that kind of information,” Nolte said. “If there’s a warrant out on someone. We already have that information.”

He said calls to the number listed went to a voicemail with an outgoing message that the number was to the “Fairhope Police Warrant and Citation Division.”

“We don’t have a warrants division,” he said.

He said anyone who receives a call from someone claiming that he or she has a Fairhope police warrant should not give out any information and should contact the department at 251-928-2385.
