FAIRHOPE — Fairhope Police say they have arrested a man suspected of kidnapping a 16-year-old boy.
It happened Tuesday on South Greeno Road. Police say the boy was getting out of his car when a man they later identified as 43-year-old Gary Jerome Douglas pretended he had a gun and ordered the teen back into his car.
Police say the suspect forced the boy to drive him to Loxley, where he bought what's believed to be crack-cocaine. They say he then forced the teen to drive to a convenience store on Highway 98 in Daphne, where he allegedly stole several items, then forced him to drive to another convenience store.
The boy told police he got away when the suspect became distracted.
Police arrested Douglas later than night on South Greeno Road.
He's charged with kidnapping in the second degree.
