FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The Fairhope Police Department’s weekend plans have hit a snag. The agency had scheduled an open house to be held April 24 at 107 N. Section St. in Fairhope, but the likelihood of severe weather is putting those activities on hold.
National Weather Service forecasters expect windy conditions on Saturday, with a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout coastal Alabama.
The department and municipal jail were both scheduled to be open for tours, and officers were going to share with the public details about their service to the community.
A number of police vehicles and fire trucks were expected to be on hand, along with a firearms training simulator, the Alabama Department of Public Safety helicopter, the Alabama Marine Police jet-ski simulator and the newly formed Fairhope Police horse patrol unit.
In a press release, police spokesman Sgt. Craig Sawyer stated that “in the interest of public safety, the open house will be re-scheduled to a date yet to be determined.”
