FOLEY, Ala. — A Wednesday afternoon car chase in Foley has resulted in the arrest of one man and the death of another. The victim was identified Thursday morning as 42-year-old Ronald Judd Ealey of Foley.
Steven Windfield Little, 30, of Summerdale was booked into Baldwin County Jail without bond. Initial charges include manslaughter, reckless endangerment and felony attempting to elude.
Maj. Anthony Lowery of Baldwin County Major Crimes explained that chain of events leading up to that chase actually started with an attempted traffic stop.
“An undercover deputy sheriff observed a black Dodge truck driving extremely erratically,” he said. “The deputy felt that the driver of the truck, later identified as Stephen Little of Foley, was an imminent danger to the public. The deputy attempted to stop Little, who failed to yield to the deputy's emergency blue lights.”
Robbie Griffiths of Foley saw the pursuit as it culminated at the intersection of South McKenzie Street and Azalea Avenue.
“He was haulin’ butt going north (on McKenzie Street aka Alabama Highway 59),” Griffiths said.
At the same time, Griffiths saw the vehicle driven by Ealey at Azalea preparing to turn south on McKenzie, where Little's truck demolished the oncoming vehicle, before jumping a curb and flipping onto its roof.
“They say that guy died on impact,” Griffiths said.
Lowery confirmed that the victim, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead upon arrival at a medical facility.
But the major said Little continued to flee on foot despite his truck being overturned. “Deputies gave chase and were able to apprehend Little,” Lowery said. “A deputy was injured by the Sheriff's office K-9 during the process of apprehending Little. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.”
The incident is estimated to have taken place between 2:30 and 3 p.m. Wednesday with traffic blocked for more than an hour.
Lowery added that the Major Crimes Division of the Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the case, while Foley Police worked the accident. However, Little faces multiple charges, including homicide.
