ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Authorities believe an early-morning burglary Monday at Lee Drug Store in Robertsdale could be related to as many as four other burglaries.
According to RPD Chief Investigator Lt. Rex Bishop two suspects are seen on surveillance video breaking through the store’s drive-in window at Highway 59 and Florida Street at around 3:30 a.m. on Monday.
The suspects went through the store’s pharmacy area taking a variety of prescription medications valued at around $10,000 with a street value pushing $1 million, Bishop said.
“They were in and out in three minutes,” Bishop said. “This is definitely something they had done before.”
While the suspects fled on foot with no vehicle spotted in the area, based on surveillance video received from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department, Bishop said, the suspects’ clothing and build match those seen in earlier burglaries at a pair of pharmacies there.
Kim’s Family Drugstore in Cantonment was burglarized at around 1:30 a.m. while The Jackson Pace Pharmacy on Nine Mile Road was hit at around 2:30 a.m.
With only surveillance video from Escambia County and from Lee Drug Store to go on, Bishop said, it’s difficult to get an exact description of the suspects.
“We’re unable to tell from the video if they are male or female,” he said. “Both are of slender build wearing hoodies and ball caps.”
On Tuesday, reports indicated that the Atmore Police Department is also investigating a burglary at the Buy-Rite Pharmacy at 4:28 a.m. on Monday and they believe it is also tied in to the other burglaries. A similar burglary has also been reported in the Wetumpka area, according to the report.
“It looks like they might be making their way around,” he said. “These burglaries might be related to (other burglaries in the area), we’re just not sure at this time.”
