DAPHNE, Ala. — A Daphne police lieutenant is facing his first time behind bars, but it is all for charity.
Lt. Judson Beedy, 41, has agreed to be locked up next month until he is “bailed out” by donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Beedy is already collecting donations toward his target of $2,600.
The “lock up” will be held at the Fairhope Yacht club on Thursday, July 22. Those wishing to “post bond” can do so via his website: https://www.joinmda.org/starsacrosstheshore/jbeedy/
Muscular dystrophy is the name given to a group of inherited disorders that result in muscle weakness and progressive loss of muscle tissue, according to the Mayo Clinic website.
Beedy, who has been with the Daphne Police Department for 16 years and is in the detective division, had no prior connection to the charity, but decided to help out in response to an approach by the charity for volunteers.
Beedy said this will be the first occasion he has spent time behind bars.
