SPANISH FORT, Ala.—Local families looking to clear a little space – and make a few bucks in the process – should think twice before purging their closets in a fit of compulsive New Year’s cleaning.
The Savvy Mom Sale returns to the Gathering Place in Spanish Fort Feb. 17-19 with an eye toward spring fashions and overflow.
“I love this time of year, but I am always faced with the fact that my children have too many toys, and their pile of outgrown clothes is growing by the minute,” said Jennifer Hammond, who began hosting the consignment sales about two years ago.
Although all spring clothing and gently used toys, books and games will be accepted, Hammond said the Spring/Summer sale will limit winter items – including sweaters, turtlenecks, heavy jackets and the like – to only 50 items per consignor.
“This will help make more room for great bargains for the upcoming season,” she said.
The sale offers consignors a base return of 65 percent on all sales and the potential to recoup as much as 75 percent of the item’s sale value. Volunteers who work four hours or those who refer at least three active, first-time consignors boost their take to 70 percent. Those who volunteer for eight hours earn 75 percent of each sale.
As usual, all items remaining will be half price on the final day of the event.
