SUMMERDALE, Ala. — Despite a ruling from U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb that official involvement in the National Day of Prayer violates the “establishment clause,” separating church and state, the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce Prayer Breakfast will take place May 5.
“It’s going to go an as planned, “ said chairman Dennis Staska. He declined further comment on the court action.
The Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce Prayer Breakfast is scheduled for 6:45 a.m. May 5 at the Baldwin EMC Training Center, 19600 Highway 59, Summerdale. Tickets are $12 per person, and can be obtained from the Chamber, 947-2626.
The main speaker will be Sirhan Stacy. The former NFL player and Alabama All-SEC running back’s wife and four of his children were killed in an automobile accident. Stacy and his then 3-year-old daughter, Shelly, were badly hurt. According to his Web site, sirhanstacy.org, the former football player has been speaking out about how he and his daughter have found faith.
