The Fairhope softball team has done some remarkable things this spring.

The Lady Pirates, coached by Jonathan Heflin, are 34-10 overall and claim the Baldwin County Tournament championship, the Dolphin Classic championship, the Gulf Coast Classic II championship and second place in the Daphne Jubilee tournament. They finished play last week with a win over nationally-ranked Beech, Tenn. in the Gulf Coast Classic II title game.

What is remarkable about this team is that it has done all of that without a single senior player. Heflin’s team starts three juniors, three sophomores, one freshman and two eighth graders. Its two starting pitchers, who have combined for over 400 strikeouts in 2010, are junior Farish Beard and freshman Grey Adams.

To say that this team of youngsters has overachieved would be a huge understatement.

Dees commits to Texas Tech

Spanish Fort linebacker Blake Dees will play football for head coach Tommy Tuberville and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

The 6-2, 230-pounder had 110 tackles as a junior.

Logan Paul headed to Auburn

Gulf Shores senior quarterback Logan Paul will join the Auburn Tigers this fall. Paul, who led the Dolphins to their first playoff win in school history and broke several school records for offense last season, accepted an offer to walk on at quarterback for the Tigers last week.
