Before the 2009 season began, most people who pay attention to Baldwin County football thought Fairhope would be a serious contender for the Class 6A, Region 2 title.
An exciting new coach and outstanding backfield led most prognosticators to say the Pirates would be the best team in the county.
Most, however, didn’t see an undefeated season coming. The rest of Fairhope’s regular season schedule sets up perfectly for the Pirates to finish the season perfectly.
The 5-0 Pirates have already played the hardest part of their schedule. The five teams left on Fairhope’s schedule (Benjamin Russell, Robertsdale, Daphne, Satsuma and Mary G. Montgomery) have won two games combined this season.
Robertsdale (0-5), Daphne (1-4) and Satsuma (1-4) are region games that Fairhope should win. Mary G. Montgomery is 0-5, and isn’t showing signs of being any better by the time the Vikings visit Fairhope on October 30 to close out the regular season.
The Pirates blew out Benjamin Russell in Fairhope last season, and The Wildcats (0-5) aren’t much better this year than last.
Barring some unforeseen disaster, the Pirates should be able to sail through the next five games unblemished and finish the season 10-0.
