FAIRHOPE, Ala. — On Tuesday, Feb. 10, the Fairhope Police Department received a phone call, reporting a gun fire at a Fairhope residence.
According to the police report, the victim and a friend were seated in the victim’s car in his driveway. About 7:25 p.m., a man, with whom the victim has had an ongoing conflict, drove by in a car and fired five rounds from a .380-caliber pistol. There were no injuries, but three of the five bullets fired did strike the victim’s house, which is located in the 600 block of Middle Street.
The suspect fled the scene in his car. FPD officer James Nelson spotted the suspect vehicle, departing Fairhope on U.S. Highway 98. Nelson stopped the car and identified the suspect. Based on information provided by the victim and witnesses, Nelson, assisted by Cpl. Wendell Thomas, arrested Leslie Williams, 37, of Prichard, Ala.
He was booked into the Fairhope Municipal Jail for the felony offense of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling (commonly referred to as a drive-by shooting). The pistol was recovered beside the roadway on U.S. Highway 98 where it had been thrown.
Williams was later transferred to the Baldwin County Corrections Center in Bay Minette. He posted a $5,000 bond was was released.
