Businesses, organizations and people whom his public service impacted fondly remembered former Foley civic and business leader Charles John Ebert Jr. on Monday.
Ebert died on Friday at the age of 85.
On Monday his funeral procession took an extended route to include a number of organizations Ebert was involved with. It included a drive by Riviera Utilities, where Ebert served on the board of directors for 48 years. The procession also passed by Foley City Hall, where Ebert was a member of the city council for 20 years. The Foley Railroad Museum, which Ebert was also partly responsible for opening, was along the route as well. The procession also passed by Ebert Agency where Ebert worked since 1949.
Riviera Utilities and the Foley and Gulf Shores Fire Departments also honored Ebert. Riviera Utilities hung an American flag from 2 utility trucks to hang over the road while Ebert's funeral procession passed in front of Riviera Utilities. The Foley and Gulf Shores Fire Departments constructed a similar display honoring Ebert on U.S. 98.
Ebert was a member of the Foley Volunteer Fire Department from 1962-1993.
The funeral procession also included an escort by more than 10 police cars, an assortment of fire trucks and a Riviera Utilities truck.
