FOLEY, Ala. — The Bill Sykes USTOO Prostate Cancer Support Group will hold its quarterly meeting on Dec. 6 in the cafeteria at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The Support Group meets on the first Thursday of March, June, September and December, according to Fred Burkle, who is chairman of the Bill Sykes USTOO Prostate Cancer Support Group.
Burkle, from Foley, is a 14-year survivor of prostate cancer and a member of the support group since “day one,” he said.
Burkle said two other area men are “very active” in the Support Group, namely, Floyd Hamburg of Foley and Sam Adams of Bon Secour.
“The Prostate Cancer Support Group is very important to an individual that has been recently diagnosed or has an interest in the group for their well-being and healing,” said Burkle.
“It’s important to have a spouse involved with the individual who comes to the Support Group. Spouses are always welcomed.”
Dr. Bill Hixson is the Support Group sponsor.
“He’s been very active with the Support Group from the beginning,” said Burkle of Hixson, who helps get speakers for the meetings or speaks himself.
Refreshments will be served at the Dec. 6 meeting.
