DAPHNE, Ala.— The City Council at its business meeting Monday set a public hearing for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 5 to discuss rezoning two properties.
Springs at Eastern Shore—at the southeast intersection of U.S. Highway 98 and Johnson Road—is currently designated as B-2, general business district; developers want the property rezoned to an R-4, high-density multifamily residential district.
Big Daddy’s Eastern Shore Car Lot—at the west side of U.S. Highway 98—proposes to be rezoned from B-1, local business district, to B-2, general business district.
In other business:
“We need to act quickly because it’s gonna cost us if we wait,” Mayor Fred Small said.
The B-2 zoning wouldn’t have allowed developers to repair structural damages to the property.
“Now we’re allowing them to rebuild in the event of a loss,” Councilwoman Cathy Barnette said.
“I’ll continue to communicate with AT&T (about altering the contract),” city attorney Jay Ross said.
