FOLEY — Members of the public are invited to pick up a shovel and help make the playground at Foley Elementary School a little safer this Saturday morning.
Anthony Solorzano, President of the FES Parent Teacher Organization, said members of the PTO and representatives of area businesses will begin spreading 275 tons of pea gravel and install 150 railroad ties early on Saturday, June 6.
Solorzano said the pea gravel was purchased from P&R Mining in Atmore and the railroad ties were purchased from Magnolia Landscapes in Summerdale, both at discount prices.
"These two companies offered us some good discounts, which is a huge help for a project like this," Solorzano said. "This work will help make this playground safer for all the kids that use it throughout the year."
"We will be out there from 7 a.m. until we get the job done, so help is more than welcome," Solorzano said. "We will be providing lunch and water, so anybody that can make it out just needs to come out when they can and help us get this work done for the kids."
Solorzano said people are asked to bring gloves, shovels and garden rakes if they can.
