Public invited to mental health planning panel discussion, forum

As president of the Baldwin County Affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), I would like to invite the public to attend the 3rd Annual Panel Discussion and Open Forum on the needs of mental health consumers and their families in Baldwin County, which we will be co-sponsoring with The Harbor of Thomas Hospital.

This will be held on Thursday, May 21, 6:30 to– 8:30 p.m., at the Community Life Center of the Daphne United Methodist Church, located at 2401 Main St.

This meeting will involve a discussion of important needs and problems facing those with mental illnesses in the Baldwin County communities, what has been accomplished in the last year to meet these needs, and what is recommended/desired in the way of additional resources and programs for the County.

The Panel discussion will be led by Steven Lyrene, M.D., psychiatrist in private practice in Fairhope, medical director of The Harbor, and board member NAMI Baldwin County.

The panel members will be: Robin Riggins, LCSW, PIP, executive director, Baldwin County Mental Health Center; Jason Tanner, LCSW, clinical director, Baldwin County Mental Health Center; Susie Carpenter, LPC, NCC, director, The Harbor; Tuerk Schlesinger, executive director, AltaPointe Health Systems; Sandra Parker, M.D., medical director, AltaPointe Health Systems; Terry Passman, M.D., psychiatrist in private practice in Fairhope; Major Collins Wynn, commander of corrections for Baldwin County; Roxanna Carpenter, special services coordinator, Baldwin County Board of Education; and myself, Lynn J. Adams, LCSW, PIP, president, NAMI Baldwin County.
