Publix Super Cup of soccer brings 200 youth teams

Youth soccer teams from around the country will descend on Foley for the newly renamed Publix Super Cup — where 200 boys and girls soccer teams will compete for the coveted championship and bragging rights for the next year.

Started in 2007 as the Flora-Bama Showcase, the event has steadily grown into a family-friendly showcase that highlights the skills and talents of young players from around south Alabama and other states alike.

The tournament venue will be spread across facilities in Foley, Orange Beach and Perdido Key. Event organizers say they hope this year's match will be the largest one yet. “Every year, this event has continued to grow as it brings thousands of kids and parents to our Gulf Coast region,” Fred Garth of Snap Soccer said. Snap Soccer manages the event.

The multi-city event will be held on back-to-back weekends —  the boys' tournament was held Sept. 13 and 14; the girls even is Sept. 20 and 21.
