FOLEY, Ala. — Vera Quaites is announcing her candidacy for Foley City Council, District 2 in the upcoming municipal election August 26.

"My campaign will be about how we can better represent our communities in Foley, particularly in District Two," Quaites said. "I respect that Councilman Heard has represented us for twelve years, but we believe it is time for new ideas and a fresh approach to solving the problems in our communities.

"The issues I will address as your councilwoman are mainly 'quality of life' issues," she said.  "There are environmental concerns such as drainage and holding ponds, streets and sidewalks, and water and sewage. Other concerns are issues regarding the safety of our neighborhoods."

A lifelong resident of Foley, Quaites is a graduate of Foley High School. She has also taken courses in Business Administration and Computer Science at Faulkner State Community College. Quaites is married to Anderson Quaites and is a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.

The Campaign to Elect Vera Quaites is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner Friday, May 23 from 6-9 pm at the Boy Scout Center on N. Cyprus St. Donations will be accepted. The public is invited to attend. To help with Mrs. Quaites' campaign, call Brenda McGaster at 970-3198.
